About Me

My photo
I currently study and live in Birmingham and am in my second year of university, undertaking a degree in media and communication. I used to blog (about fashion, style, clothes etc.) but for various reasons stopped. However, I now find myself at a point where I have more developed and informed opinions on an array of different things, including the fashion industry. This blog is not going to be photos of outfits and clothes, but my view on a multitude of topics surrounding the fashion industry. Fashion is something that I love but as media undergraduate I want to write articles that avoid the wishy washy adoration so commonly reflected in fashion blogs and magazines. It's interesting to look a little further and dig a littler deeper.

back to snap

top, shorts, tights; Topshop, shoes; Nike, hoodie; SoulCal, hat; New Era
Not as easy as I first anticipated to post frequently again. University life is a lot more hectic than I imagined it to be, that being said I'm still loving every minute of it. Having a more quiet weekend this week which is well and truely needed as I am completely shattered. I'm quite aware that this isnt my 'usual' style but I felt like changing it up a bit and went for a more urban feel. Not sure if I would dress like this everyday but it was fun to experiment. What do you guys think about this sort of style? I think it can look quite edgy if done right.
p.s. this post was meant to go up Saturday evening but failed to, sorry

studs and stripes

jumper; Pull & Bear, top (worn underneath); River Island, skirt; Zara, shoes; Topshop

A bit of a different outfit today, but I felt like wearing something different. I always feel a bit awkward in typically girly clothes, so I teamed this pleated skirt with a thick, baggy jumper to make it appear less girly and more boyish. I love how the collar looks underneath as it fits in with the whole 'girly' thing whilst giving the whole outfit an edge with the blunt studes. Zara did a black, waxed, pleated skirt which would look so good with this outfit, however I can't seem to find it now which is a shame as my skirt collection could do with expanding.

Seaside Soiree

Top; H&M, shorts; old cut offs, sandals; Topshop, bag; Eastpak

I am back from another trip away from home, but this time I went down to Devon for a couple of weeks as I do every summer, and it was a very enjoyable trip indeed. I spent the first half of my trip in Paignton and I must say that the weather was incredible! I got more of a tan there than I did in Tenerife. I spent most of my time on the beach or in the garden just relaxing and reading, and just generally loving life. The second half I headed over to Exmouth where the weather took a turn for the worse, but I still managed to go on a bike ride to Topsham before the really heavy rain showers hit.

Throughout the trip I wore quite simple outfits because of the warm weather however it may have also been due to pure laziness on my part. For me being comfortable is greatly important when I'm deciding what to wear in the morning so this tshirt and denim cut offs combination was typical for me. It may be slightly boring but I think the simplicity of it works well, and the addition of the green sandals give it a well needed pop of colour. The bag is one I got years ago for school when I was about 13 and was what I used when I went to the beach.

P.S. Over the past two weeks I have consumed enough food to feed an average family for a month. Need to get back on the pilates this week.

half put together but not half hearted

Shirt & shorts; Topshop (also worn but not photographed brown buckle Topshop ankle boots & black Burshka faux leather jacket)
For the past few weeks I have been a recluse, however I place all blame on my exams which are, finally, finished now. But now they're actually finished I find myself a bit lost and feel that I should be doing work even though I have none to do. My lack of posts is due to my lack of activity. I didn't want to keep posting internet images of items that took my fancy as I felt it would get a bit boring after a while and so I have wait until now to upload something other than that. I had, so to speak, a formal engangement on Tuesday but felt it wasn't appropriate for me to photograph my outfit. Instead I bring you an outfit I wore last night (Friday) albeit very rushed and half put together. It was outside so I wore a black jacket and some ankle boots to keep me warm and these also helped to make the outfit look a bit more casual as it was an 18th birthday garden party. I also think my makeup made the look quite formal which was another reason why I chose to wear boots. I hate dressing up to go out as I just never know what to wear.
P.S. It was my prom on Thursday night but I'm waiting to get hold of some photos so that post will be up shortly

you think I'm so caught up

jumper; H&M, skirt; Zara, belt; Topshop, shoes; Newlook
This is such a lazy post, even the name is lazy (I'm listening to drake right now and couldn't think of anything else). I have been temporarily absent recently, not entirely sure why, I think its just numerous things that have added up leaving me with no time or energy. However, today I broke up from sixth for two weeks which I am so relieved about as I'm just so tired. This does mean that I will be taking a trip to Exeter as per usual when I'm on brake. I leave tomorrow afternoon after work which will be a slight rush but I don't mind as it means I get to go to the seaside sooner. I have banned myself from going shopping whilst I'm there as I really need the money for other more important things, this ban is not a new thing I enforced it quite a while ago. This is one of the reasons for my lack of outfit posts, I'm just wearing the same clothes all the time so there's nothing new to show you guys. Anyway, I may blog while I'm away but I can't promise anything, so if not I shall be back Easter Sunday.

dressy denim

all from Topshop
If I had a hefty amount of money that I could spend freely, this is how it would be spent. I really love the idea of pairing skinny jeans with heels to create a more 'dressy' outfit, which is mainly due to my favouritism towards jeans over any other leg ware. Usually in the summer I would wear a plain white vest with denim, so I thought why not jazz up the white vest a little, add some heels and perhaps a blazer to make it slightly more suitable for going out in. To some this outfit may seem quite casual and something to wear in the daytime but as someone who practically lives in jeans and converse this is rather formal. I would definitely feel more comfortable in this then in a dress. I wasn't going to include the blazers but I decided to in the end, I wouldn't necessarily pair them like that, I would most likely switch them around as they each go with both of the outfits (I hope that made sense). Anyway, I should really start my psychology essay and then delve into the industrial revolution (not literally, I'm just doing art history).

Uni, halloween and Lykke li

I've been a bad bad blogger this month :( But in my defence I have had bucket loads of stuff to do, such as my UCAS form (which is in the process of being sent off now) and I've really had to knuckle down with my school work as well. There has been a few other bits and bobs that have happened recently as well. I went to two halloween parties last week (dressed as a vampire) and last night I went to go see to Lykke Li in Camden! It was really fun, and atmosphere was brilliant. Oh and Lykke Li was awesome too.

jumper;H&M, shorts; Topshop
Here is an outfit I wore when I went to St Albans with my mum last week.

simply smart

Shirt; Bershka, skirt; H&M, shoes; Topshop
Currently I am very uninspired which I put down to the immense amount of stress that has been put on me recently from school. So, unfortunately this is affecting the blog, I just simply can't think of anything to write so I feel it better not to write at all. However, I do have an outfit post to show you, albeit rather plain and boring. I love the smart look right now, and as a result have acquired a reasonable amount of shirts resulting in this look. Not much to say about it really. I do really love my new shoes though, how could I have lived this long without owning a pair of brogues!

dancing with the devil

tunic; h&m, boots; primark, belt; topshop
In the usual type of british summer weather this outfit would be fine, but recently it has been roasting, but it's the kind of heat that overwhelms you and isn't very pleasant. Therefore making it quite difficult to do very much, oh how I long to be back on holiday. Anyway, back to the point of this post. The outfit. The tunic is actually a top but in a size 16 so it completely swamps me without the belt. It would be cute in the autumn with black tights and a leather jacket.

A slightly different outfit post, but I kinda like it. The velvet shorts are my friend's and are from River Island.

Simple things

shorts; H&M, tunic; Dorothy Perkins, belt & sandals; Topshop
hello all, I just wanted to show you guys how something as simple as belt can completely change an outfit. I know it might sound really obvious but sometimes the obvious is the last thing we think of. It was lovely and hot so I wanted to wear something cool and light. Plus I was just lazing around the house so I didn't need to look too composed. I had a plain pair of shorts on, they're quite an odd material and the best way to describe them is 'wannabe denim', they're really light and comfy. All I did was tuck part of the tunic into the shorts for a simple casual feel and added a pair of sandals; perfect for a lazy summer day. Then, to make the outfit look slightly more smart and appropriate for going out, I put a belt round it and tied it in a knot (the shorts are underneath). It's just the little things that make a lot of difference.
p.s. this post was meant to go out on Friday but blogger wouldn't let me upload photos

ways to wear it: Bershka shirt

Here, as promised, is the video of how I plan to wear my new shirt this summer. You may notice that I paired it with shorts each time, but I prefer to wear shorts over skirts, I just feel more comfortable. I thought I'd include some photos as well, for people who do not wish to watch the video for what ever reason.

I'd say this first outfit is quite military inspired because of the detailing on the shorts and lace up boots, the colours are also reminiscent of this theme. Perfect for going out if you want achieve a smart look but wish to show off your tan at the same time.

This look is definitely focussed on the shorts rather than the shirt because of the bold print. Keeping the shirt and the shoes black focuses the attention on the shorts giving the look an overall summery vibe. The wedges make it more of a night time look but changing them to a pair of sandals or flats will make it perfect for the day.

This is one way I would choose to dress down the shirt; the distressed denim gives it a more casual feel whilst the boots add some edge to the look. I would wear it when I'm going out with my friends or even to do some shopping.

wonders of the universe

top:your eyes lie, cardigan: river island, leggings: topshop, doc martens
Not a huge surprise to see another outfit post, but I love this outfit so much. I wore it last Thursday but have just got round to posting on here. I loved this cardigan as soon as I saw it in the shop, and was ecstatic to find out it was in the sale for £10 (or £15, I can't quite remember). Its quite bold so I haven't worn it a lot as I've found it difficult to find something to pair it with. But I had a brain wave and thought why not put it with my your eyes lie top because of the muted colours. My metallic purple (very muddy as a result of walks in the woods) doc martens evened out the colours of the whole look. I will definitely be wearing this outfit again.
p.s. blogger has been misbehaving recently and has deleted comments on previous posts, slightly annoying. Please sort it out blogger.

we used to be so soulful

shirt: urban outfitters, top: rock rebel at topshop, leggings: h&m, doc martens, ring :topshop
Once again I have another outfit post for you all. I actually wore this yesterday but didn't have time to post it, so here it is today, better late than never. I just wanted be comfortable so went with leggings and a baggy rock t, then threw on a shirt and my tan doc martens with the fur lining. Not much has been going on the past week, but it is my birthday tomorrow! I'm so excited to finally be 17. I have got to go into sixth form but I am having my friends over for some drinks in the evening which should be lovely. So expect lots of photos.

flow

top: h&m, skirt: zara, cardigan: h&m, shoes: topshop
Hello, just a quick outfit post to show you guys what I wore to sixth form on Friday. It was such a warm sunny day so I decided to wear my black pleated skirt as it is very summery and flowy. I got lots of lovely compliments on my outfit which really brightened my day. That skirt was definitely a good purchase, I absolutely love it and will get a lot of wear out of it. Its a shame about my dirty shoes really, but I'm finding it very difficult to find a pair of shoes that don't rub or hurt my feet at the moment. Even my old shoes that never used to rub have started to hurt, so I'm not quite sure what is going on with my feet right now. Strange.

pleats

top: h&m, skirt: zara, blazer: not sure, wedges: newlook
An outfit post, just like I promised. This is not my usual look, its more tailored and girly. But having said that I do really like the whole combination of the pleats with the blazer.

I'm back

Hello all. Sorry for the absence of blog posts over the past week, I have been in Devon staying with my family. It was absolutely lovely and I enjoyed every minute of it. The weather was brilliant as well, which meant lots of days spent on the beach eating ice cream. I do have a slight tan as well! On the Tuesday I went shopping in Exeter and came back with quite a few items that I'm very pleased with. I will hopefully get round to doing some outfit posts with these clothes soon.
1. cotton high waisted shorts £7.99 H&M
2. pleated skirt £15.99 Zara
3. cotton cardigan £9.99 H&M
4. nude vest £4.99 H&M
5/6. lace top £8 Primark
7. floral print bra £7 Primark
9. floral wire headband £4.99 Newlook
(I had already worn the shorts and cardigan before I took the photos so thats why they look creased and misshapen)

there ain't no romance around there

Just a quick outfit post from earlier today. I pinned my hair hair up into a bun and wrapped a head scarf round my head. I thought it looked quite nice actually, as I don't usually like having all my hair out of my face, so it's a very different look for me. As for the outfit, I know its not very exciting as those shorts are my go-to item so I wear them a lot. It's just easy to pair them with a baggy rock tee and some boots for that effortless look.
