About Me

My photo
I currently study and live in Birmingham and am in my second year of university, undertaking a degree in media and communication. I used to blog (about fashion, style, clothes etc.) but for various reasons stopped. However, I now find myself at a point where I have more developed and informed opinions on an array of different things, including the fashion industry. This blog is not going to be photos of outfits and clothes, but my view on a multitude of topics surrounding the fashion industry. Fashion is something that I love but as media undergraduate I want to write articles that avoid the wishy washy adoration so commonly reflected in fashion blogs and magazines. It's interesting to look a little further and dig a littler deeper.

pretty pout

l-r: Paul & Joe in Nude, Illamasqua in Test, Rimmel London Moisture Renew in Nude, Barry M Lip Paint in Marshmallow, NARS Satin in Niagara
So I was sitting on the sofa looking through ASOS and came across a variety of lipsticks that I would love to try out. My love for nude tones comes through in my choices, I just think they're really understated and there is a shade to suit every skin tone. And, if paired with the right shadow and liner they can work all year round in every season. They are all at different price points, but I try not to focus on the price but on the product itself. I do think its possible to find a good product at an affordable price, but you have to try out a lot of different products before you find the right one. Yes, products by mac or nars may be better quality, but it doesn't mean you can't find other branded products are of the same standards. I would like to test them all out but unfortunately my budget doesn't stretch that far, however I will try out the rimmel london moisture renew lipstick as I have heard lots of lovely things about it. Have you tried any of these products? What are your views?

ways to wear it: Bershka shirt

Here, as promised, is the video of how I plan to wear my new shirt this summer. You may notice that I paired it with shorts each time, but I prefer to wear shorts over skirts, I just feel more comfortable. I thought I'd include some photos as well, for people who do not wish to watch the video for what ever reason.

I'd say this first outfit is quite military inspired because of the detailing on the shorts and lace up boots, the colours are also reminiscent of this theme. Perfect for going out if you want achieve a smart look but wish to show off your tan at the same time.

This look is definitely focussed on the shorts rather than the shirt because of the bold print. Keeping the shirt and the shoes black focuses the attention on the shorts giving the look an overall summery vibe. The wedges make it more of a night time look but changing them to a pair of sandals or flats will make it perfect for the day.

This is one way I would choose to dress down the shirt; the distressed denim gives it a more casual feel whilst the boots add some edge to the look. I would wear it when I'm going out with my friends or even to do some shopping.

give me a second go

As you can see from all the photos, I have been shopping. This was my second attempt at birthday shopping because, as some of you might already know, the first didn't go according to plan. I must say that this was a very successful trip. It was a truly lovely day spent with one of my best friends. We actually arrived early to Topshop and had to wait outside for the doors to open, something that I'm not quite used to as I don't usually go to Oxford Street on a Sunday. It was quite weird wondering around in Topshop with barely anyone there but was much easier to look around, even though it didn't last very long. I finally bought the sandals I'd been eyeing up since easter from Topshop, in case any of you are wondering they are available on the website in a multitude of colours. I love the simplicity of them and how soft the straps are. I do really love all the delicately embroidered sandals on the market right now but I tend to wear my sandals everywhere in the summer so that type of sandal wouldn't be appropriate. They were only £22 which I think is really good for Topshop and quite cheap in comparison to other sandals I have seen.
Next I managed to get my hands on one of the bikinis I have been lusting over from H&M. I was going to order it from their online store but thought I'd wait considering I was going shopping. So glad I did because I tried it on and had to get a bigger size than I would have ordered online. I think black bikinis go wonderfully with a tan and this style is a safe one to go for especially if you're going on holiday and want a dip in the pool. What I love about this black bikini is that it has the little tassels and gold skull beads, it adds to the bikini making it a little bit more edgy. The price was what I expected a bikini to be, the top was £9.99 and the bottoms were £7.99.
Then lastly I bought a shirt from Bershka that I found on one of the discount rails, the sign said they were £15 but the label said it was £9.99 which was a bit of a bonus. When I bought it I thought it was black but when I put it on in daylight at home it was a really dark navy. Its quite a sheer shirt but not overly sheer so you don't have to wear a top underneath it. I got it to replace my mum's silk shirt that she let me borrow as I didn't want to damage it because its really delicate and irreplaceable because it was bought from a boutique 10 years ago. This shirt isn't silk, as you can tell by the price, but it is a really lovely soft material that certainly feels very similar to silk, just less smooth. Sorry about poor quality photo, it's quite difficult to take photos of black things when there's lots of bright light. I have just finished filming a video on how I'm going to wear which should give you a better idea of what it looks like, so look out for that in the next couple of days.

marc me up

1. West end tote VIP 2. The Stevie 3. The Croc Sofia 4. The Britt
After seeing the Sofia bag in Oxford Circus Topshop last weekend I have seriously considered buying it, that was until I went on the Marc B website and fell in love with the majority of other bags that they sell. These are the ones that I am loving most right now and would give anything to have. Unfortunately my money doesn't stretch that far. I think that it has become harder to find bags on the high street that are both affordable and look high quality, but Marc B seems to have found the middle ground. They look quite high end and not high street at all, which to me is important. Even though the price isn't super cheap it isn't over the top either, I believe that if you want a decent quality bag you have to be prepared to pay that little bit extra. For some of you the prices might be fine, personally I find them reasonably expensive but if I know I will get a lot of use out it then I would be willing to hand over my cash for it. After all, aren't they beautiful?

wonders of the universe

top:your eyes lie, cardigan: river island, leggings: topshop, doc martens
Not a huge surprise to see another outfit post, but I love this outfit so much. I wore it last Thursday but have just got round to posting on here. I loved this cardigan as soon as I saw it in the shop, and was ecstatic to find out it was in the sale for £10 (or £15, I can't quite remember). Its quite bold so I haven't worn it a lot as I've found it difficult to find something to pair it with. But I had a brain wave and thought why not put it with my your eyes lie top because of the muted colours. My metallic purple (very muddy as a result of walks in the woods) doc martens evened out the colours of the whole look. I will definitely be wearing this outfit again.
p.s. blogger has been misbehaving recently and has deleted comments on previous posts, slightly annoying. Please sort it out blogger.

feeling blue

This isn't really an outfit post as such, it's more of me showing you what I bought yesterday in Oxford Street. But I only got to go into Topshop then had to leave because I kept being ill (not very nice at all). It's really annoying because I had planned that trip a month in advance and it cost me and my mum £34 to get there and back. I will hopefully be able to go again in a few weeks time, but my exams are coming up within the next few weeks so it might not be possible.
The aztec print top was £16 which I thought was quite reasonable for Topshop as their prices often exceed my budget. I think it would be perfect for the summer months paired with some simple denim shorts and converse or sandals. The only thing about this top is that it is quite revealing as the arm holes are really low, but I think it will be acceptable to wear it when its super hot and sunny. Otherwise I would just layer it over a cami top.
The blue tie-dye tights were £10 which personally seems quite expensive for tights. I have had my eye on the pink pair for ages but when I saw them in the store they didn't look as nice as the blue ones. They're a very loud piece so I'm going to have to be quite selective on what I pair them with. I still haven't worked out which shoes I'm going to wear them with yet, but I'm sure I will come up with something soon.
p.s. I'd just like to apologise for my grumpy face in the photo, I still don't feel very well at all and didn't want to put on any make up as it wasn't necessary.

we used to be so soulful

shirt: urban outfitters, top: rock rebel at topshop, leggings: h&m, doc martens, ring :topshop
Once again I have another outfit post for you all. I actually wore this yesterday but didn't have time to post it, so here it is today, better late than never. I just wanted be comfortable so went with leggings and a baggy rock t, then threw on a shirt and my tan doc martens with the fur lining. Not much has been going on the past week, but it is my birthday tomorrow! I'm so excited to finally be 17. I have got to go into sixth form but I am having my friends over for some drinks in the evening which should be lovely. So expect lots of photos.

flow

top: h&m, skirt: zara, cardigan: h&m, shoes: topshop
Hello, just a quick outfit post to show you guys what I wore to sixth form on Friday. It was such a warm sunny day so I decided to wear my black pleated skirt as it is very summery and flowy. I got lots of lovely compliments on my outfit which really brightened my day. That skirt was definitely a good purchase, I absolutely love it and will get a lot of wear out of it. Its a shame about my dirty shoes really, but I'm finding it very difficult to find a pair of shoes that don't rub or hurt my feet at the moment. Even my old shoes that never used to rub have started to hurt, so I'm not quite sure what is going on with my feet right now. Strange.

sweet candy

Its been a while and I apologise for that, but never fear as I am back to blogging. Last week I got sent this Candy Punk hoodie from the lovely people at Republic. It looks quite blue in the photos, but it's actually a mix of indigo and purple. I wore it to my friend's post wedding BBQ on Friday night and I have to say that words cannot describe how warm and cosy it was. I was certainly glad I chose to take it with me. The tassels are just fabulous and I love them the most out of all the little embellishments and details.

I almost forgot, as you can probably tell my room looks rather different. That's because on Monday my dad cut down my bed to make it shorter and just generally easier for me to use. My room looks so much more spacious now, but it is quite weird sleeping on a low bed. I'm sure I'll get used it.
